Fizz Now Offers 5G: Here’s Where Canadians Can Use It

Prepaid brand Fizz has started rolling out 5G service across parts of Canada, bringing faster mobile speeds to customers in Québec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
The launch comes after last month, its website accidentally teased 5G plans were coming.
The budget wireless brand says its 5G network now covers more than 22 million Canadians. To use it, customers need a 5G-compatible phone and must switch to one of Fizz’s new 5G plans, which are now available on its website. Existing customers can upgrade through their account dashboard.
“The launch of 5G on the Fizz network is a natural evolution of our mission: to offer our members innovative technological services that simplify their daily lives—at affordable prices,” said Fizz General Manager Martin Gendron, in a statement to iPhone in Canada. “This technology will transform our members’ mobile experience by delivering significantly higher speeds and better network performance.”
According to Fizz, 5G can deliver much faster download and upload speeds compared to 4G LTE, along with smoother performance for things like video streaming, online gaming and video calls. The company also says 5G can handle more devices at once, which should help in busy areas like downtown cores, concerts and sporting events.
Fizz launched in Québec in 2018 as an online-only mobile carrier owned by Videotron, which is part of Quebecor. The brand has since expanded into several other provinces, positioning itself as a lower-cost alternative to the big national carriers.
