Apple’s Secret New Wearable Could Replace Your iPhone Camera by 2027

Apple AI wearable concept

Apple is reportedly working on a new AI-powered wearable that could change how users document their daily lives.

According to a report from The Information, Apple is prototyping a device roughly the size of an AirTag that can be pinned to clothing. The wearable is currently slated for a potential release as early as 2027, though sources close to the project cautioned that development is still in early stages.

The prototype is described as a thin, circular disc featuring an aluminium and glass exterior. Despite its tiny size, Apple engineers are packing a big amount of hardware into the shell. The device features two cameras on its front face, consisting of a standard lens and a wide-angle lens designed to take photos and videos of your surroundings.

To handle audio, the pin includes three microphones to pick up ambient sound and a built-in speaker for playback. Users would interact with the device through a physical button located along one of the edges.

For power, the wearable uses magnetic charging on the back, like with Apple Watch. Engineers are aiming to keep the form factor nearly identical to an AirTag, though the inclusion of cameras and sensors will likely make it slightly thicker.

Apple appears to be fast tracking its timeline to compete with a shifting market. OpenAI and former Apple designer Jony Ive are expected to debut their own first-gen AI wearable this year.

Nobody has been able to develop a winning AI-powered pin device yet. We saw the disaster known as the Humane AI Pin. Let’s wait and see what sort of beautiful device Ive creates with OpenAI and also what Apple might churn out as well.

Apple’s revamped Siri is set to run on Google’s Gemini AI, and a new report says Apple is also working on its own chatbot that would use the same Google-powered AI under the hood.
