Rogers to Slash Credit Card Cashback Rates as New Spending Caps Coming

Rogers is making some big changes to its credit card rewards program later this year, introducing annual spending caps that will lower cashback rates for many cardholders.

Starting August 4, 2026, Rogers will debut tiered rewards for the Rogers Red Mastercard, Rogers Red World Mastercard, and Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard. Once a cardholder hits their specific annual spending limit, the amount of cashback they earn on future purchases will drop.

New spending caps and reward rates

The new limits depend on which card you carry. The entry-level Rogers Red Mastercard will have the lowest threshold at $16,000 per year. The Rogers Red World Mastercard follows with a $26,000 limit, while the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard offers the highest cap at $61,000.

For Rogers, Fido, or Shaw customers who currently enjoy a 2% cashback rate on all purchases, exceeding these limits will see that rate cut in half to 1% for the remainder of their anniversary year. World Elite cardholders will see their rate drop to 1.5% after crossing the $61,000 mark.

Key details for cardholders

The spending counter for all accounts will reset to zero on August 4, 2026, to kick off the new system. After that, the cap will reset every year on the anniversary of the account opening.

One card is escaping these changes entirely. The premium Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard, which was recently introduced, will not have an annual spending cap, allowing users to continue earning at the higher rates regardless of how much they spend.

Rogers is also increasing the standard interest rate for purchases and fees by 1%, moving from 20.99% to 21.99% across its card lineup. This interest rate hike will take effect starting with August 2026 billing statements.

While these changes limit the total rewards available for high spenders, Rogers says that the 1.5x redemption bonus remains in place. This means customers can still get 50% more value when they use their earned cashback to pay for Rogers services or products, explained the company.

Rogers credit card holders complaining about the new rates noted it’s better to get something like Wealthsimple’s Visa which offers cashback without limits.
