Rogers and Fido Notify Customers of Automatic 5G Speed Upgrades to 1Gbps
Back in March, Rogers-owned Fido announced 5G plans with speeds up to 1 Gbps, eliminating 4G wireless plans. The company also noted existing Fido customers would get free speed upgrades to 1 Gbps by March 18.
Today, Rogers and Fido started notifying customers via text message that their wireless plan speeds have been upgraded to 5G speeds, up to 1 Gbps (their text message had a typo of ‘Gpbs’).
According to text of the message shared by iPhone in Canada readers it says:
Rogers Service Message: Thank you for being a valued customer. Good news! We have increased the speed of your plan’s data, now with speeds of up to 1 Gpbs. This upgrade is already complete, no action required. Enjoy streaming, browsing, and connecting faster than ever before.
Just days after Fido went 5G, Bell’s Virgin Plus magically brought back its own 5G plans, joining its rivals including Koodo.
Existing Fido 5G plans right now are as follows:
- $39/20GB
- $44/60GB
- $49/80GB Canada-US-Mexico
Did you get a text from Rogers or Fido today about this 5G speed upgrade?

Reported as a spam message when I received it as Gpbs is a clear misspelling.
Got the same text. But getting down speed of 80 mbps on 5G 😂😂
You can try to enable your plane mode 30 seconds if you are driving long distance between home and work or the city. Phones aren’t yet enough smart to understand that even tho they still catch the antenna that was super powerful few I’m away, you want to connect to the nearest instead.. Hence why this manipulation is helpful
Yes I got same text today. So are you saying this is spam because of misspelling?
I got that “upgrade” however my Pixel 9 does not work right, it’s spotty and I don’t get full “bars”
I googled 5G and turns out it’s because my area isn’t set up for 5G.
Changed it back to Lte and no more issues
