Videotron Launches New 2 Gbps Home Internet in Parts of Quebec

Videotron is doubling its top-tier internet speeds for some residents in Quebec. The company has officially launched its new 2 GIGA residential plan, which offers download speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps and upload speeds of 200 Mbps.

The new service is currently available to customers in specific parts of Montreal, Laval, and Quebec City, according to a spokesperson via email to iPhone in Canada. Videotron plans to expand the service to more areas across its network in the coming months.

The 2 Gbps plan offers twice the download speed and four times the upload speed of Videotron’s previous GIGA plan. One of the main advantages for eligible customers is that the upgrade does not require any new hardware or equipment changes. The plan also includes unlimited data.

While this new plan focuses on high download speeds, it joins Videotron’s existing 2.5 Gbps symmetrical plan, which offers equal upload and download speeds and has been available in several regions for a few months.

The rollout follows the near-total coverage of Videotron’s standard GIGA plan across its entire network. Residents can check if the faster 2 Gbps service is available at their specific address through the company’s website.

200 Mbps upload is a bit better than the current 50 Mbps. I moved away from Vidéotron because 50 Mbps was too slow.

No, they are saying 2 gbit/s SYMMETRICAL, meaning both up and down. This is still shy of the 3 mbit/s of Bell Fibe but we rarely actually take advantage of those speeds unless you are doing a lot of copy from servers (your mileage may very). Once you get past gigabit speeds, most people won’t notice the difference, frankly. I got a great price for my 3 gbit/s service, so I stick with it.

Damn it’s not available where I live in Laval, like the 2.5 GIGA. 😭

No one need that kind of speed it’s only marketing. 99% of the consumer are on Netflix and other platforms and 60mbps is more than enough for 4k streaming. Upload speed is the same thing.

A lot of people work from home now. You’d be surprised how many of us copy 100 MB PowerPoint presentations to and from office services. Times have changed.
