Schlage’s Sense Pro Is Coming to Canada This Month. Here’s Why iPhone Users Will Love It
Schlage is launching its most advanced smart deadbolt yet in Canada, and it comes with a feature iPhone and Apple Watch users will appreciate: hands-free unlocking that actually knows when you’re about to walk through the door.
The Schlage Sense Pro Smart Deadbolt goes on sale June 29 at The Home Depot and online for $549 CAD (it’s not on Amazon.ca yet). It’s the first Schlage lock to feature the company’s new Converge technology, which uses Ultra Wideband (UWB) to unlock your door automatically as you approach, without having to touch anything. It works through the Home Key feature in Apple Wallet on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, and unlike basic geofencing it calculates your speed, trajectory, and motion to figure out that you actually intend to walk in rather than just walk by.
The company first announced the Sense Pro back in January at CES in Las Vegas.
It’s also the first Schlage lock to support Matter over Thread, pairing with a Thread-enabled Apple home hub like an Apple TV 4K, HomePod, or HomePod mini for fast and reliable smart home integration. Built-in Wi-Fi means you can control it remotely through the Schlage Home app, set up to 250 access codes, schedule auto-lock, and pick from three hands-free modes depending on your preference.
Battery life is rated at up to six months, and there’s a USB-C jumpstart port built in for emergencies if the batteries do run out.
In a statement to iPhone in Canada, David Perozzi, general manager at Allegion Home, said on Tuesday, “Sense Pro is a testament to this dedication, offering hands-free unlock and enhanced convenience for everyday life, while upholding the Schlage legacy of trusted security.”
Samsung and Google Wallet support with hands-free and tap-to-unlock is also expected to arrive later this year once Aliro certification is complete.
For hands-free unlocking to work, you’ll need an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 18.5 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later running watchOS 11.5 or later. iPhone SE models and iPhone 16e and 17e are excluded as they lack the UWB tech (which enables Precision Finding).
We recently went hands-on with Schlage’s Encode Plus smart deadbolt, which supports Apple Home Key, allowing you to tap your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock the door. The Sense Pro takes this one step further by just automatically unlocking the door when you get nearby, making unlocking truly hands-free.
