PlayStation State of Play: Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Until Dawn 2, GTA 6 Controllers and More Announced

PlayStation held another State of Play presentation Thursday morning, packing in new game announcements, release dates, DLC and a few surprises across PS5.

The presentation comes only a few months after June’s massive State of Play, which gave us our first looks at God of War Laufey and Until Dawn 2, alongside an extended gameplay showcase for Marvel’s Wolverine.

Here’s everything shown during the September State of Play.

Resident Evil (September 18)

PlayStation opened with a clip from the upcoming live-action Resident Evil movie. The bloody sequence follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, through a seemingly deserted Raccoon City before things predictably go very wrong. The movie hits theatres September 18.

Marvel’s Wolverine (September 15)

With Marvel’s Wolverine launching September 15, Insomniac Games dropped one final trailer focusing on Bolivar Trask’s mutant-hunting program and its Sentinel robots. We’ve been following Wolverine closely since its extended gameplay showing during June’s State of Play, and thankfully there isn’t much longer to wait.

Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition (October 1)

Ghost of Yotei is getting a new hardcore survival mode on October 1. Players can use several characters from the game alongside Ghost of Tsushima protagonist Jin Sakai.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance (2027)

Capcom revealed Ascendance, a sizeable new expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s coming in 2027 with new monsters, locations and gear.

Metro 2039 (February 4, 2027)

4A Games showcased PS5 Pro gameplay from Metro 2039. The atmospheric sequel launches February 4, 2027.

Maneater 2 (TBD)

Maneater is officially getting a sequel. The original’s open-world shark chaos returns, though no release date has been announced.

Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown (October 15)

Following Crimson Desert’s launch earlier this year, Pearl Abyss revealed its next major DLC. Charting the Unknown follows Kliff, Oongka and Damiane and arrives October 15.

LEGO PlayStation (October)

That rumoured Lego PlayStation is real. The 1:1 recreation of Sony’s original console contains more than 1,900 pieces and opens to reveal multiple small diorama scenes inside.

Final Fantasy Resonance (October 22)

Square Enix showed more of its upcoming HD-2D RPG, including a boss fight against Sephiroth. A free PS5 demo containing the entire first chapter is available today, with progress carrying into the full game when it launches October 22.

Gundam: Rogue Orbit (March 5, 2027)

The latest trailer for Gundam: Rogue Orbit showed more of its mech combat and confirmed a March 5, 2027 release date.

Hunter’s Moon (October 26)

Hunter’s Moon is a newly announced first-person historical folk-horror game launching on PS5 October 26.

Uncanyon (TBD)

Another new announcement, Uncanyon sends players through fantastical environments and puzzle-filled ruins. No release date was announced.

Keeper (Available Now)

Double Fine’s wonderfully strange adventure starring a sentient lighthouse is coming to PlayStation. Better yet, Keeper is available on PS5 starting today.

Rev. Noir (TBD)

Konami showed Rev. Noir, an anime-inspired RPG following Asch on a journey to prevent a deadly catastrophe known as the Lightfall.

Rhapsody in Scarlet (TBD)

Konami also announced Rhapsody in Scarlet, a jazz-infused adventure set in 1920s New York starring young magus Ellie Myers.

New Additions to PlayStation Plus

Mycopunk is joining the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members. Meanwhile, Mega Man X Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2 and Ratchet & Clank are headed to the Classics Catalog over the coming months.

Saros: Zenith (2026)

Housemarque isn’t finished with Saros. The free Zenith update introduces Overlord Rush, Eclipse Layers, New Game+, additional progression options, new Carocosan modifiers and more accessibility features.

Saros was one of the major PS5 exclusives first highlighted in PlayStation’s February State of Play.

Gran Turismo 7: Spec IV (October)

Gran Turismo 7 is getting its Spec IV update across two releases later this year. Part one arrives in October, followed by part two in December, adding new circuits, vehicles and a Family Mode.

Until Dawn 2 (January 28, 2027)

Until Dawn 2 finally has a release date. Firesprite’s standalone sequel launches January 28, 2027. This time around, a group of ghost-hunting YouTubers heads to the abandoned Akishima Island looking for their biggest story yet. Naturally, that goes about as well as you’d expect from an Until Dawn game. Peter Stormare is confirmed to be returning as Dr. Hill.

We got our first look at Until Dawn 2 back in June, but today’s trailer gave us a much better idea of the choices and consequences at the heart of the sequel.

GTA 6 Limited-Edition DualSense Controllers (November 19)

Fresh off GTA VI’s Extended Look drawing 31.1 million views on Netflix, PlayStation revealed two limited-edition DualSense controllers inspired by Vice City. Both black and white models feature an iridescent, colour-shifting finish, textured palm-tree details and official Grand Theft Auto VI branding. Pre-orders begin September 10, with the controllers launching alongside GTA VI on November 19. Sony lists them at $84.99 USD, although Canadian pricing hasn’t been announced.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

PlayStation saved one of its biggest announcements for last. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final chapter of Square Enix’s remake trilogy, launches April 8, 2027 on PS5.

The extended gameplay presentation showed Cloud and company travelling aboard Cid’s Highwind, alongside the new FITS system. Four specialized FITS, including Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner, are introduced, featuring altered characters’ abilities, combat roles and appearances. Players can also instantly switch party members while exploring, use a new grappling gun for traversal and choose which characters participate in certain quests, potentially changing how scenarios unfold.

Between Wolverine arriving in less than two weeks, GTA VI in November and Until Dawn 2 and Final Fantasy VII Revelation filling out early 2027, PlayStation certainly isn’t lacking for big releases over the next several months.
