Tesla’s long-delayed next-generation Roadster is getting another moment in the spotlight, with an October 1 event now confirmed for Waco, Texas.
As reported by Tesla North, Tesla teased the date on Saturday with an image posted to X carrying the caption “Go for launch.” The image showed the rear of a dark sports car, a glowing full-width red light bar and the date 10.01.
Tesla later updated its official Roadster page with the same date and has since started sending invitations to media and influencers.
The invite reads: “ROADSTER. October 1, 2026. Waco, Texas. Join us. Food and refreshments will be available.”
Invitees must RSVP before midnight PT on September 16. Tickets are non-transferable, IDs will be checked and attendees must be at least 21 years old.
Tesla first unveiled the second-generation Roadster in 2017, promising a 0-60 mph time under two seconds and up to 620 miles of range. Production was originally targeted for 2020 but has been delayed repeatedly.
The event could also reveal more about Tesla’s long-teased SpaceX package. Elon Musk has previously discussed equipping the Roadster with cold-gas thrusters and has suggested the car could briefly “fly.”
The “Go for launch” teaser appears to lean into that aerospace connection. Tesla North also noted the unusual teaser image could be hiding part of the car’s design or hinting at a thruster demonstration.
Still, October 1 does not mean customer deliveries are about to begin. Tesla has yet to confirm final pricing, production timing or full specifications, while Musk has previously suggested production may not start until 2027 or 2028.
Musk added another tease on Saturday, saying the next-generation Roadster is “out of this world.”
