Starlink Expands Free Mini Rentals to More Canadians

Starlink is expanding a tempting hardware perk to more Canadians. SpaceX has opened its free Mini dish rental to invited customers on every Residential plan in select countries, including Canada, a benefit previously reserved for top-tier Residential Max subscribers, according to an email received by Tesla North.

The Mini arrives as a separate rental kit from the main home dish, so customers can take the same internet they use at home on road trips, camping or boating excursions. Invited customers receive an email with a “Claim Mini” button and a short survey, and the offer is limited to one kit per customer. Starlink notes that rental hardware may be refurbished.

Keeping the rental free comes with conditions. The Mini must stay on Standby Mode at $15 US per month, or on one of the discounted Roam plans. Roam 100GB costs $60 US per month (typically $75 US), Roam 300GB costs $88 US per month (typically $110 US), and Roam Unlimited costs $160 US per month (typically $200 US). Customers who upgrade to Residential Max get the special rate improved to half off the standard price, and everyone must keep an active Residential plan to stay eligible.

The return terms are firm. Customers who cancel their Residential plan, change their primary plan type or cancel the Mini line must return the Mini kit within 30 days or face a charge for the retail price on their payment method. The hardware stays a rental and is never owned by the customer. The offer is invite-only, and no end date has been published.

This matters because it puts a portable second line within reach of far more households. The Mini hardware bonus was previously limited to top-tier Residential Max subscribers, as reported in August, while SpaceX has been steadily sweetening the deal in Canada, from $200 off the Mini hardware to a $39 monthly Residential promo. Now any invited Residential customer in Canada could add a travel-ready dish for little more than the cost of keeping it on Standby.

What to watch next is the fine print. Starlink has not said which countries are included or how invitation recipients are chosen, so Canadian Residential customers should keep an eye on their inbox, since only invited customers can claim the offer.
