Apple Touts ‘Extraordinary’ iPhone Duo Demand as eBay Listings Hit $14,000 CAD

Apple’s first foldable iPhone went up for pre-order on Friday morning, and within minutes the delivery dates started slipping. What began as an October 23 window quickly pushed into November and December, and buyers too slow on the trigger are being told to wait until February 2027.
Apple is framing the rush as a win, later giving a statement to outlets such as Bloomberg, saying, “Demand for iPhone Duo, our first foldable iPhone, has been nothing short of extraordinary,” and “We are working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible, and we will continue accepting orders online.”
The statement notably offers no numbers, no restocking timeline, and no acknowledgement of how far out some estimates have drifted. In Canada, delivery windows have stretched into early February, and scalpers are already listing the phone for as much as $10,000 USD ($14,160 CAD) on eBay for a 512GB model, that would only cost $3,299 CAD. For those doing the math, that’s a 329% markup or 4.29x the original cost (before taxes). This feels like people trying to take full advantage of the first-gen iPhone all over again.
The constrained supply was previously rumoured ahead of time, with reports pointing to manufacturing difficulties limiting initial stock. Apple typically holds back some units for in-store sales, and its website tells shoppers to check back on October 24 for pickup availability. Who knows what will be available that day, so your best bet is to check right away.
The Duo starts at $2,999 CAD in Canada, or $124.96 per month over 24 months through Apple, after pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. Pacific on Friday. With repair prices running as high as they do on a foldable, buyers facing a 2027 wait might want to budget for AppleCare+ in the meantime.

The number of people bitching and moaning on social media that they couldn’t get one on launch day was laughable. Like, grown ass adults practically crying. It was great. People need to find something else to be passionate about.
