iPhone Duo Owners Report Cracked Inner Displays Days After Launch

Apple’s first foldable iPhone has been available for only a few days, but some early adopters are already reporting issues with its inner display.

Several iPhone Duo owners have shared photos on Reddit showing cracked screens, with some claiming the damage appeared within hours of unboxing their devices. The reported failures appear remarkably similar. Cracks develop along the centre of the folding display, accompanied by a horizontal section of pixels that remains illuminated white.

One customer reported the problem during initial setup, before they had used the device for more than a day or so. Approximately ten separate incidents have surfaced online, although the actual number of affected devices remains unknown.

Some customers say Apple Stores have replaced their damaged iPhones without issue. Others purchasing through wireless carriers reportedly encountered difficulties obtaining replacements due to limited inventory.

The cause of the issue, however, remains unclear. One theory suggests a misaligned hinge component could be placing pressure on the inner display when the phone is folded. However, there’s no evidence confirming a manufacturing defect or establishing whether these incidents share the same cause.

The reports arrive following an exceptionally strong launch for Apple’s first foldable device. As previously reported in Canada, pre-order demand pushed delivery estimates into February 2027. Apple has also reportedly increased production targets by 44% to accommodate demand.

The reported failures represent a small number of publicly documented cases, and the issue’s overall scale is unknown. It’s likely that affected users received a defective batch, and the issue doesn’t affect all iPhone Duo devices on the market.

Apple has not publicly identified a cause or announced a broader repair program.
