How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS in 7 Minutes (redsn0w/Mac)

Do you own an iPhone 3GS? Been curious about all this “jailbreaking” hoopla you’ve been hearing about lately? Well, you’re in luck because about a week ago the iPhone Dev Team (and other young hackers) released an updated version of redsn0w. We have lots of updated jailbreaking guides here.

Anyways, here’s a quick video I compiled filming my own iPhone 3GS jailbreak with redsn0w 0.8 from start to finish. No editing, just from beginning to end so you can see what the entire process is like. redsn0w is the easiest jailbreak yet!

The following video was filmed in one shot late at night, hence my quiet voice, miscellaneous ramblings, and enough camera shake to make you feel nausea. You have been warned! 😉

How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS with redsn0w on a Mac in Under 7 Minutes

Before you jailbreak, remember to sync your iPhone in iTunes first!

That was pretty easy, eh? Remember, if you run into any problems, you can always restore your iPhone 3GS in iTunes. As always, jailbreak at your own risk I am not responsible if something happens to your iPhone!

Note: VoIPover3G does NOT work on the iPhone 3GS. Once installed, it crashes Skype upon launch. Waiting patiently for an update. Still waiting to resume using Skype over 3G on my iPhone!

How is Battery Life and Speed on a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS?

This was the problem with jailbreaking the iPhone 2G/3G–speed. The installation of Winterboard would slow down your phone and make it sluggish. I have experienced nothing of the kind with my 3GS. This is where the hardware upgrade has made a big difference!

As for battery life, jailbreaking does make a small impact. My battery still lasts me through an entire day without charging. I have turned off the battery % indicator and only toggle it ON to find out when I’m very low. It just makes life more pleasant!
