Reddit App’s New ‘Discover’ Tab Makes Finding New Content Easier

Reddit has created a new tab that aims to make it easier to find new content.

The web aggregator has today announced a new Discover tab in its iPhone and iPad app in an attempt to help people more easily find new communities and content to enjoy.

Reddit said that content surfaced in its Discover tab is based on communities that Redditors already belong to, as well as time spent, explaining in a blog post Thursday, “If a Redditor subscribes to and spends a significant amount of time in football and baseball subreddits, Discover tab will prompt them with other sports-related content.”

Users can also tell Reddit to show them more or less of a certain category, or hide specific content.

The Discover tab lives in the bottom navigation bar of the mobile app — replacing the old Communities tab. To access the subreddits you’ve joined, you now have to click the top left corner of the Home page — where you’d usually access your profile. And lastly, you can now access your profile by clicking the top right corner.

Reddit director of product for content and communities Jason Costa wrote in the blog post, “We’re ushering in a new era of discovery on Reddit, with images and video top of mind. We’re making discovering relevant content and communities more intuitive with the Discover tab. It’s a great new way for people to explore and engage with hundreds of thousands of communities around the world.”
