Apple’s TV To Be Called iPanel?

Analyst Peter Misek, with Jefferies, has been quoted saying Apple’s rumoured tv set could be called the “iPanel”, and is set to launch in the 4th quarter of 2012. According AppleInsider, Misek has said iPanel is a better name than iTV, as it is far more than a TV.

Here is a quote from Misek:

“It is a display, gaming center, media hub, computer, home automator, etc. Also, Apple would likely have difficulty getting naming rights from the UK TV network ITV.”

Misek has also said he predicts the average price of the “iPanel” to be around $1,250, and could shoot Apple stock up over $800 a share. He says the recent deal between Foxconn and Sharp, along with certain television components being shipped to Apple suppliers, indicates that the Apple television will be released this year, with production starting in May or June.

The Apple iTV, or whatever you want to call it, has been rumoured for quite a while now. Steve Jobs has said in the past, that it didn’t make sense for Apple to try to compete in the tv market, and with the individual providers. Has that changed? Has Apple been able to convince the major networks to go with a subscription service, that they have turned down in the past?
