WSJ: Apple Not Planning iPhone 4 Recall

Earlier today, Apple announced a surprise press meeting for this Friday at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The meeting will be focusing on the iPhone 4 and the first thing everyone thought was that Apple was going to issue a product recall.

While Apple will definitely speak about the iPhone 4 signal issues and recently released iOS 4.0.1, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple will not begin a product recall for the iPhone 4.

Apple’s iPhone 4 has been dogged by reports of antenna-reception problems since its launch last month. The company has called a news conference to discuss the issue Friday. Apple doesn’t plan to recall the phone, a person familar with the matter said.

More interestingly, apparently Apple engineers were aware of the risks associated with the external antenna design of the iPhone 4. The risks were also communicated to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, but “Mr. Jobs liked the design so much that Apple went ahead with its development”.

There is definitely no shortage of iPhone 4 drama these days. The press conference is scheduled for tomorrow and it will be interesting to hear what is discussed.
