Apple May Tap iPhone Assembler Foxconn for Apple Car Following Unsuccessful Discussions with Car Manufacturers

Following a string of supposedly unsuccessful discussions with major car manufacturers, Apple may ultimately utilize preexisting relationships with suppliers such as Foxconn to assembled its ‘Apple Car’.

According to sources, Bloomberg reports that Apple may seek out the expertise of iPhone supplier Foxconn to assist in the assembly of its unannounced vehicle. Additionally, Magna International may have also been approached. Magna is a Canadian-based automotive firm with which Apple has worked in the past on the development of its Apple Car.

Sources believe Apple will be turning to leverage the strengths of the two companies as discussions with major car manufacturers such as Kia and Hyundai seemingly fell through as a basis for how the partnership would operate never landed. This in turn is reportedly forcing Apple to seek alternatives in order to fully develop and manufacture the supposed Apple Car for the wide market.

Additionally, this news report lines up with a previous story, which explained that Foxconn was getting into the automotive business. In January, it was reported that Foxconn would be teaming up with China-based carmaker Geely Holding Group to assemble made-to-order electric cars. Foxconn has also been working alongside Byron. Sources add that Foxconn is already quite used to following Apple’s designs and strict requirements in their devices.

Given Foxconn’s ambitious expansion and prior relationship with Apple, it lines up to believe that Apple would seek out Foxconn to assist.
