After many iPhone in Canada readers let us know the Bell (and Telus) 5G network was working in Ottawa, Ontario, the company announced on Thursday the service is officially live.
A Bell spokesperson told iPhone in Canada via email the 5G network went live in the nation’s capital this morning.
“Our 5G enables theoretical peak download speed of up to 1.7 Gbps in major cities across Canada for an incredible mobile experience (average expected speeds between 69-385 Mbps in the Greater Toronto Area). Once future 5G technology is fully deployed, it will enable mobile experiences and applications that we can’t even imagine today,” explains the Bell website.
Canada is set to start its 5G network auction later this summer, and for now faster mmWave 5G (as was shown off by Apple last year at its iPhone 12 event) is not available here yet, and is still holding back the full potential of the latest iPhones.
