Rogers, Telus, and Bell Release $30 6GB Data Plans in Quebec to Match Videotron
In late June, we reported Quebec’s Videotron launched a $30/month 6GB data plan. Such data plans originally popped up from the ‘Big 3’ carriers as ‘limited promotions’ during the times of available iPhone upgrades.
For those unaware, the first introduction of the 6GB plan was back in 2008 when consumers dismissed Rogers’ initial iPhone data plans, and the company relented to pressure from an online petition that garnered over 60,000 signatures.
It appears our prediction has come true–Rogers, Telus, and Bell have released similar $30 6GB data plans in Quebec to compete directly with Videotron, according to MobileSyrup. Telus notes their promotional data add-on is a ‘competitive response’:
This data plan is applicable to all smartphones including the iPhone 4 and other Android devices. Gee, competition is a good thing! Now, if only the rest of Canada can benefit today from this excellent data plan like Quebecers.
Raise your hand if you’re on the $30/month $6GB data plan. It’s perfect for using with Personal Hotspot.

Good job Videotron!
Now we need this type of competition across the country.
The 6gb/$30 plan is great, I’ve had it for 2yrs now… But I wonder if the carriers will bring it back because look at the new data plans Verizon and AT&T have now…

Retentions. Threatening to leave is a powerful tool for getting good prices.

Retention plan with Rogers waited till contract was up and called to tell them I was cancelling unless I got a very good deal.
I also told them that the reason I was canceling was because I couldn’t afford the old plan anymore, I told them I was satisfied with the service but I wouldn’t be able to make the payments. If you aren’t a dick about it it will go a long way.

What about Fido, Virgin & Koodo btw ?
You can’t compare rate plans from US carriers with a much larger customer base from which to draw from, to rate plans in Canada with limited customer base. Apples to fruit salad.
While true… But they have a ton of customers and a bigger network but have small dinky data plans that are more expensive than ours? Their voice plans are way better than ours up here, it’s only the data plans that don’t compare…
So I see your point… but if the trend is less data then our plans might just get more expensive.
