Rogers to End Some New Customer Promos and Retention Offers

Rogers has stopped offering some new customer promo and retention offers, as of April 14, 2020.

Earlier this week, iPhone in Canada was told Rogers had implemented the change, detailed in an internal memo dated April 13, 2020. The change meant new customers seeking offers (including those from the retentions department) will no longer see special deals on TV, home internet, home phone and wireless plans.

When reached for comment, a Rogers spokesperson told iPhone in Canada, “We always strive to deliver the best possible experience to our customers with products and services that meet their needs and we work with our customers to find plans that work for them.”

Rogers will continue to offer plans and price points to meet the needs of its customers, which includes loyalty offers for residential and wireless services.

It’s unclear if the number of loyalty offers doled out will now be lower than before or not. We’ll find out over time when Rogers customers start asking for renewed offers of previous deals.

Any Rogers customer that was able to get a deal on a service prior to April 14, 2020, should still see their promo pricing honoured, available within Rogers self-serve online.

The timing of this change appears to offer fewer deals for new customers during the COVID-19 pandemic, when millions of Canadians are out of work. It also means customers seeking a retention offer before switching to another service provider won’t get a special deal to stay, possibly.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, Rogers says it has offered some temporary measures to customers, including waiving home Internet data overages, Canadian long distance charges and roaming charges, to go with a selection of free TV channels.
