Telus 2012 Q2 Earnings: $2.7B in Revenue, Smartphone Subscribers Drive Wireless Growth

Telus announced their 2012 Q2 earnings on Friday and revenues were up thanks in part to their wireless division, which generated 112,000 postpaid customers (a 22% increase from a year ago) and also saw a 27% rise in wireless data revenue. For the quarter, Telus generated $2.7 billion in revenue.

Telus leads the wireless industry’s ARPU (average revenue per user) at $60.29 per month (up 2.4%), and also had a very low churn (rate of wireless disconnections) of 1.39% combined for postpaid and prepaid customers, in which Telus calls their “best result in over five years”.

The total number of wireless subscribers sits at 7.45 million, up 4.9% from a year ago, and smartphone users now represent 59% of their 6.3 million postpaid users, up 42% from a year ago. Looks like it a successful wireless quarter for Telus.

The company recently introduced a $65/month 6GB voice and data plan, similar to other offers available from competitors. Also, iPhone users will be happy to know the Telus My Account app is now available for download.
