Public Mobile Price Drop: 1GB Data Add-On Now Costs $15

Telus-owned prepaid brand, Public Mobile, has announced its 1GB data add-on has dropped in price, permanently.

Previously at $30 for 1GB, the price was cut in half to $15 as part of a limited-time promotion. However, the company says “after hearing so much positive feedback from the Community,” they have decided to make the $15/1GB price, permanent.

The price change is effective today, May 22, 2020 and can be added via online Self Serve under “My Add-Ons”.

Paying $15 for 1GB of data is still expensive, but it’s definitely cheaper than $30. Compared to Rogers-owned Chatr, the latter charges $5 for 500MB of extra data for select plans under its Data Plus option. Both Chatr and Bell-owned Lucky Mobile allow continued throttled data usage once users exhaust their data allotments on select plans.

The price drop comes at a time when some people (i.e. frontline workers) are requiring more data than others due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
