Telus has announced the launch of Telus Home Assistant, which allows Optik TV customers to control their digital box with their voice, thanks to Google Assistant.
According to the company, Optik TV customers just need to pair a Google Assistant-enabled speaker or Smart Display to their digital box, which will “allow voice commands to change the channel, launch Netflix and other apps, search for their favourite shows, pause or simply turn off their digital box.”
For those without a Google Home device, hands-free voice controls are available through the Google Assistant mobile app on iOS and Android.
“TELUS is constantly innovating to put our customers first and integrating Optik TV with the Google Assistant not only helps to streamline the entertainment experience, but makes it more immersive and interactive,” said Blair Miller, Vice President of Consumer Products & Content, TELUS, in a statement.
Telus says their Home Assistant also allows customers to manage their accounts with voice commands, by saying “Talk to Telus” to their Google smart devices. The following Google devices are supported:
- Google Home
- Google Mini
- Google Max
- Third party speakers integrated with the Google Assistant
- The Google Assistant app downloaded on select iOS and Android smartphones and tablets
If you’re a Google One subscriber, there’s a free Google Home Mini offer right now you should check out for.
“As voice assistant technologies have become more commonplace in Canadians’ homes, it was a natural fit to integrate control over the largest screen in the house. We are proud to offer our customers hands-free control of their TV experience and look forward to evolving TELUS Home Assistant’s capabilities in the near future,” added Miller.
