How to Unlock iPhone with ultrasn0w 1.2.3 on iOS 4.3.3

Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 has been released in Cydia by the iPhone Dev Team, as promised . This will also work for non-unlockers to fix the cosmetic “one signal bar” issue.

This is NOT a new unlock, rather a compatibility update for existing unlockers to use iOS 4.3.3. If you updated to iOS 4.3.3, and don’t see your baseband listed, you cannot unlock your iPhone.

How to check your baseband (aka modem firmware)?

On your iPhone, go to Settings–General–About–Modem Firmware. If your modem firmware matches one of these below, you CAN use ultrasn0w:

01.59.00 (iPhone 4)
04.26.08
05.11.07
05.12.01
05.13.04
06.15.00

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone with PwnageTool (Mac) or sn0wbreeze. This will install Cydia, which will enable you to install ultrasn0w 1.2.3.

Step 2: Launch Cydia. Search for “ultrasn0w”. Install it, and reboot your phone.

Step 3: Voila. You should get a signal. Your iPhone is now unlocked!

Big thanks to the iPhone Dev Team for all their hard work!

Can someone explain to me what ‘this is not a new unlock’ means? How is it not new? I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.0.1 with baseband 5.13.04 which I unlocked last year. I have avoided installing iOS 4.3.1 because it could not be jailbroken AND unlocked. Now it appears to be able to. For me it’s a new unlock, no?

I just don’t understand what the distinction is. When is this unlock (which was never available before for iOS 4.3.1) not new? Please explain.

What it mean is that this is not a new unlock compared to the previous version. The previous unlock can already unlock 4.3.1 (old basebands), but there were some problems with it on iPhone 4. This unlock is to fix those problems.

I think you missed the last release of ultrasn0w, which can unlock 4.3.1 on old basebands.

Could you unlock an iPhone 4 if you jailbroke with redsnow for 4.3.1. Also, how do you know what baseband you have????

Thanks in advance

Essentially, it’s an update to an older unlock. For all intents and purposes though, it’a a new Unlock if it does something that the other version didn’t do. Really, it doesn’t matter as long as it now works for all versions of iPhone with the correct basebands, right?

Ditto. Can someone give a run down for noobs on this topic? I have run a JB several times, but never ventured into the unlock. Is modem firmware ur baseband? Ex: 4.10.01?

U JB with redsn0w for 4.3.1, but took no steps to preserve baseband etc. Am I screwed at this point?

Nvm what everyone says. This should be called the crap-unlock since it doesnt help a large portion of iphone users.

Yes, modem firmware = baseband. If you already update to fresh 4.3.1, you cannot unlock.

If you already update with fresh 4.3.1, you cannot unlock until the next firmware update or Dev Team tool.

You can however jailbreak using redsnow

iPhone 4 32G Locked to Rogers
Version: 4.1 (8B117)
Modem Firmware: 02.10.04

The phone is jailbroken long time ago and I have ultrasnow installed, but it didn’t recognize the SIM. My last try out was like a month ago and it didn’t work, I’m wondering if this update brings any changes??

Anyone tell me if I can unlock? I’m currently in Dubai and can’t use my phone? help!!!

No…only 01.59.00 baseband on the iPhone 4 can be unlocked.

Worked for me after a reboot. From what I understood, using snowbreeze to jailbreak will preserve the baseband. Redsnow may not, per my understanding.

Dumb question, but better save than sorry!

I have a 3G on 3.1.2 with 5.11.07 baseband and I don’t have access to a Mac (Windows only). What should I do to unlock my phone?

Thanks!

Hi, I am a newbie and had never unlocked my iPhone 4 ever (long time AT&T customer). Baseband is 4.10.01. For kicks went ahead and installed ultrasn0w. Initially searched, respiring and found signal. Does this mean my phone is unlocked?
I do not know anybody who has T- mobile.

Any idea if it will be possible soon to unlock an iPhone 3GS with 4.3.3 and baseband 05.16.02 without having to update it to iPad baseband?  I’d really rather not do it that way due to possible side effects and  the voiding of the warranty.
