Images Surface of Alleged ‘iPad mini 2’ in Gold with Touch ID [PICS]

Relentless Apple parts leaker Sonny Dickson from Australia has sent us the following images of what looks to be a gold iPad mini showing the Touch ID sensor found in the iPhone 5s. The images first appeared on Weibo (with a watermark), but the original poster sent them directly to Dickson (without the watermarks), who forward them for us to share with you. He explains the images were sent to him by a first time tipster, so take them for what they are.

Check them out below:

Dickson also sent out the following tweets, based on what he’s hearing:

Dickson’s sources in the past have proved to be credible, especially when it came to leaks of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. With Apple rumoured to launch new iPads at an October event like last year, could we expect new colours and features such as gold and Touch ID to pop up at the event?

CNET reported tonight IHS Supply believes the introduction of a Retina iPad mini this fall alongside the iPad 5 could be “less certain” due to manufacturing volumes, which apparently hint towards a Q1 2014 launch.

In previous interviews, Dickson had stated on the record he was going to quit leaking Apple parts after the iPhone 5s/5c launch. After asking him about this, he told us “I did change my mind for now well I could stop any time I want – I’m just not sure.”

Let us know what you think about these images–do they look ‘legit’ or are they just random parts from a Chinese manufacturer trolling the internet on Alibaba or possibly a Photoshop job?
