iPhone 3G No Longer Available On Apple Online Store

Just to add more to the growing fact that there is a new iPhone coming really soon, Apple confirmed rumors this morning by taking away the option to purchase an iPhone 3G on the Apple Online Store.

The iPhone 3G device is still listed at the Online Store however the “select” option, which is used to make the purchase, has been removed. This leaves only the iPhone 3GS as available iPhones for sale.

However, prospective customers may still purchase an iPhone 3G at their local Apple Store or Walmart while supplies last. US-based Walmart locations have recently dropped the price of the iPhone 3GS to $97 on contract, further eliminating the need to purchase an iPhone 3G.

Once the iPhone 3G inventory is burned through, that will be the end for that device. The $99 price (on contract) has mostly existed to catch customers who would otherwise purchase other low-priced smartphones such as some of the Blackberry and HTC devices. The next step from here is to launch a new iPhone and then reduce the iPhone 3GS to $99, on contract.

Well, at the time we will get an iphone 4G before it's released. We have an great impression for the leaking of it on april, and the new features of android as references, we can image how amazing iphone 4G will be. Than do you want to purchase an iphone 3G?

Once again Apple leaves it's customers in the dark, not knowing whether a product has been killed, being updated, or just currently out of stock.

Is there some reason Apple just can't make a statement saying they are actually stopping production/sales of a product?

Perfect timing for the new 4G iPhone. I hope this year it will not be a repeat of last year where it took people more than a month to get the iPhone because it was out of stock. I've been holding out for half year just to get this coming iPhone and really hoping i don't have to wait any longer!

Jeez another one bites the dust?

I must say though, after going from my iPhone 3GS and using an iPhone 3G just for a few minutes is pure torture. There's so much lag and the OS runs so slowly. I can only imagine how iPhone OS 4 multitasking would perform.

I'm pretty sure your patience will be rewarded. WWDC 2010 can't come soon enough!

…its essentially gonna be obsolete in less than a month 😛 (since the intro of 3gs was quite similar to the 3g, and the huge diff between the 3gs and the new 4g/hd)
