Apple Releases iOS 4.1 GM Seed to Developers
Alongside the announcement of iOS 4.1 availability next week, Apple today released the GM seed of iOS 4.1 to developers.
The SDK is build 10M2309 and the firmware is build 8B117. There are five distinct downloads, one each for the iPhone 4/3GS/3G and iPod Touch 2G/3G.
This latest build, which comes just under a month since the last build patches problems with the iPhone 4 proximity sensor, Bluetooth issues across iDevices, and performance problems with iPhone 3G.
Additional changes in the GM seed of iOS 4.1 include:
- Game Center makes public debut
- Various bug fixes
- High Range Dynamic Photos
- HD Video uploading via WiFi

An interesting thing I just noticed. The GM of 4.1 comes with Rogers update 8.0.
Opposed to 4.0.X 7.2
Is this release the same as the gm of ios 4.0 where even if you are a developer you can install it without bricking your device?
Yes you can. I installed iOS 4.1 GM using iTunes 9.2.1.5 on Windows 7 x64.
Installed and working fine… And I am not a dev!
I hope the fixes do not introduce new bugs. Crossing my fingers.
I just installed 4.1 GM on my 3G – and to answer your questions: Yes, the update does install on a non-developer phone, and more importantly, YES, it fixes the performance issues. It may not be as good as it was under iOS 3, but compared to 4.0, it runs much much better. It still lags sometimes, but not so much that you want to toss your phone out the window. The second most important fix, IMO, is that for the times where the phone needs to process for a while, the UI gives you “Loading…” messages (i.e. in the body of an e-mail message that is loading) and the entire phone does not become unresponsive for no apparent reason. It is much less infuriating.
The most important fix, for me at least, is that my phone doesn’t take 10 seconds to wake up anymore 🙂
