Apple Releases iPhone Firmware 3.1.3
Apple has released firmware update 3.1.3 (7E18) for iPhone/iPod Touch.
This is a minor update to firmware 3.1.2, released on October 8 2009, and supports all iPod Touch versions (first, second, third generation) and all iPhone versions (2G, 3G, 3GS).
Firmware 3.1.3 addresses various bugs and issues with applications and also improves the accuracy of the reported battery level on the iPhone 3GS (battery icon/percentage indicator). Firmware 3.1.3 has also updated the modem firmware from 05.11.07 to 05.12.01.
Below are the updates in firmware 3.1.3:
This update for iPhone and iPod touch contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• Improves accuracy of reported battery level on
iPhone 3GS
• Resolves issue where third-party apps would not
launch in some instances
• Fixes bug that may cause an app to crash when
using the Japanese Kana keyboardProducts compatible with this software update:
• iPhone (all models)
• iPod touch (all models)
Remember, if your iPhone/iPod Touch is jailbroken and/or unlocked, you should not immediately update to 3.1.3, as you may lose both your jailbreak and unlock.
For those who are not jailbroken, firmware 3.1.3 is available now in iTunes.

If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device – 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.
- PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.3
- There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).

I don't see the point of this update except to update the moden firmware and make unlocking impossible till a new exploit is found. I am not touching this update. My iPhone is just fine on 3.12
Thanks for the heads up – looks like I will be keeping my 3.1.2 as the fixes do not apply to my 3G :p
any thoughts on now having a 3.1.2 crash on me and having to restore it to factory settings and no choice but to update to 3.1.3 and use black rain to unlock and jailbreak?….in other words will black rain work for 3.1.3?
please help! this is the 4th time my 32gig 3gs has crashed since jailbreak!
blackra1n is now obsolete, as far as I know. Geohot hasn't made a statement, yet. I think you're stuck until redsn0w is updated.
I have confirmed that redsn0w 0.9 will work to jailbreak an iPhone 3G. Just need to point to OS 3.1.2, when browsing for IPSW.
How can I do that, my phone updated to 3.1.3 and i lost a lot of stuff, am I screwed?
how do i restore it to 3.1.2 and then proceed to use red snow 0.9?
I have also tried to custom restore the phone to 3.1.2 from the ipsw from the list on the iphone in canada page….
it attempts to restore and send a message to apple to authorize the restore……no dice!………why my phone continues to turn on and restart itself over and over is beyond me…gets to a point where the soft restart turns and turns and turns and nothing………I have no idea where to go from here!
Do i have to wait for the redsnow update for my 3GS that is on 3.1.2 or is there another option ( other than buying a new phone )…..please please help!!!!
Hold down shift while clicking on restore, it will allow you to load a ipsw file.
You should search for your present *.ipsw's before to know what directory they are in
Custom restore will not work. You need to do an official restore, then jailbreak with redsn0w. You will not be able to unlock this way, though.
When jailbreaking with redsn0w: browse for the 3.1.2 IPSW, even though your device is on 3.1.3.
for some reason Apple does not allow iphones to be restored back to 3.1.2 when using its ipsw…..ive tried quite a few times to now go from 3.1.3 back to 3.1.2…..still no dice……ive tried as many trouble shooting methods as I can possible and still no solution…..i guess im waiting for the 3.1.3 jailbreak and unlock for 3GS.
Also I used redsn0w 0.9 to get into my phone and then tried using either ultrasn0w or blackra1n……nothing worked either……not to sure why my phone decided to freeze up and go into a continual bootlogo screen then off, then boot logo screen then off….any words of advice from any one?
