Taiwan Company Receives 15 Million iPhone 5 Orders from Apple to Ship in September

According to Digitimes, Pegatron Technology has received an order for 15 million units of the iPhone 5 from Apple, slated to ship in September:

Due to its cooperation with Apple for iPhone 4, Pegatron, in 2010, significantly expanded its plants, human power and equipment aiming satisfy the orders for 10 million CDMA iPhone 4s; however, since the Apple’s CDMA iPhone 4 sales were lower than expected in the first quarter of 2011, Pegatron shipped less than four million CDMA iPhone 4s, causing the company’s utilization rate to drop to only 50% with its gross margin also drop to 1.8% in the quarter.

Sources note the iPhone 5 is not a major update, and supply components have already started shipping to Pegatron’s factories in Shanghai, along with recent increase of factory worker hires.

Recent rumours have hinted at Apple’s suppliers preparing for a Fall iPhone 5 launch, with production rumoured for August and even a possible September 9th launch date. The public release of iOS 5 is scheduled for this Fall, and launching the iPhone 5 at this time would coincide perfectly.
