Chronic Dev Team’s @Pod2g Has Found An iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak Exploit

“Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5.” This was the message by @pod2g, a member of the Chronic Dev Team, posted earlier today on twitter suggesting that he has discovered a loop hole in iOS 5 that can be exploited to achieve an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak. However, he also mentioned that a release won’t be coming soon giving us no ETA whatsoever of the newly found exploit. Back in September, @pod2g revealed how their team was closing in on an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 5 on all current devices but since then, we haven’t heard much about its progress until today.

Here is the tweet:

@pod2g: “Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it.”

Currently, only a tethered iOS 5 jailbreak is possible both via Sn0wbreeze and Redsn0w jailbreak tools which means that you need to connect your iOS device to a computer each and every time it’s rebooted. However, an iOS 5 SemiTether app has been released recently on Cydia slightly closing the gap between tethered and untethered jailbreaks.
