Ted Rogers Confirms iPhone Release in Canada!

The day has finally come for Canadians (this is not an April Fools joke)! Ted Rogers this morning issued a press release that confirmed the iPhone is coming in Canada! The company has finally come to terms with the big Apple. Here is the quote from Mr. Rogers himself:

“We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” said president Ted Rogers in a statement. “We can’t tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.”

There were no further details on pricing or availability. Considering there are already thousands of unlocked iPhones already on the Rogers wireless network, this news may not be as exciting to some of you out there. Could the “everybody and their grandma has a Motorola Razr effect” be coming soon?

It’s about time we heard something from Rogers. Both companies haven’t been very open about the release of the iPhone. Most people have assumed it was regarding pricing issues and data plans (Rogers is not a fan of unlimited data plans while Steve Jobs is) and the “iPhone” trademark dispute with Canadian company Comcave.

I’m surprised it took this long, maybe the Great Canadian iPhone Petition might have played a part. A big thanks to all my readers for contacting me with the breaking news–I’m going to blame it on the time zones! Cheers!
