1% of US Adults Plan to Buy Apple Watch in First Week After Launch: Survey

The buzz around the latest device, the Apple Watch, has brought results: Although pre-ordering went live at 12:01 a.m. PDT, the initial supply quickly sold out, so those checking the store for a purchase this morning need to face the harsh reality that in some cases they will need to wait until June to get the Apple Watch model they wanted – and that includes the top-of-the-line Apple Watch Edition models. But who will buy these units? The NPD Group has profiled potential buyers through a poll conducted by CivicScience.

After surveying almost 5,000 US respondents aged 18 and older, NPD has found that 1 percent of US adults plan to purchase the Apple Watch within its first week of availability. Another 1 percent have plans to shell out at least 349 USD to buy the hottest gadget before the end of the first month of availability, the survey commissioned by the NPD Group shows.

As you can see in the above image, of the 4,932 people who participated in the survey, 4 percent (194) said they planned to purchase the device later, 75 percent (3,718) had no intention of buying it, while a further 19 percent were not even aware of the Apple Watch. It certainly looks like they will have to wait months to get their device…
