DJI Mavic 2 Leak Reveals ‘Pro’ Drone with Hasselblad Camera, 31-Minute Flight Time

Details of an unannounced new drone from market leader DJI have been revealed early in a UK-based store’s catalog.

An image of the upcoming Mavic 2 drone was first leaked online earlier this month, and now UK store Argos has published a catalog that shows off the new drone in a prominent advertisement which also lists the drone’s features.

The accidental leak shows off two models of the DJI Mavic 2, which hasn’t been launched yet – DJI canceled a launch event scheduled for July 18. How a major retailer could inadvertently publish an ad before an official launch is unclear – either Argos mistakenly jumped the gun or DJI failed to inform the store of the cancellation of the launch event.

The listing in the catalog provides us with some details about the new foldable drone:

The Mavic 2 is a small yet powerful drone with 1080p video transmission and up to 8km (5 miles) transmission distance and a max speed of 20m/s (45mph). It will turn the sky into your creative canvas. Its compact size and 31-minute max flight time makes this one of DJI’s most sophisticated flying cameras ever. Omnidirectional obstacle sensing with APAS and Active Track 2.0 give you the confidence to take to the sky and capture your moment. Dolly Zoom (zoom version only). DJI Mavic 2 Pro & DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.

Design of the upcoming drones looks to be carry-over from the original Mavic. The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom will be the standard model, but it will have a 2x optical zoom lens on board. Meanwhile, professionals can look forward to the DJI Mavic 2 Pro which will have Hasselblad-design optics, as well as a larger 1-inch sensor on board.

Shared features of the two models include 360-degree collision awareness system, a top speed of over 70 KM/h, and a long 31-minute flight time. In the catalog, there is no mention of the recording capabilities, though we would not rule out 4K recording features. It can, however, transmit 1080p footage up to 8Km away to the pilot on the ground.

Just because Argos has accidentally printed an ad for the Mavic 2 doesn’t mean the launch of the new DJI drone is imminent. While the company has postponed the July 18 ‘See the Bigger Picture’ event, there has been no official word on the launch since then.

All we have right now is what to expect when the Mavic 2 drones finally land, and a pending decision on whether you want a Hasselblad camera with no zoom or the flexibility of a 2x lens.
