Google Canada has announced the official launch of the Pixel 4a, now available for pre-order priced from $479 in Canada and becoming widely available for purchase on September 10, 2020. The rumoured Monday launch appears to have come true.

The battery is now larger at 3140 mAh (versus 2800 on the Pixel 4), while there’s a polycarbonate unibody with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is available in one colour—Just Black.

The Pixel 4a specs include 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor.

The Pixel 4a includes dual stereo speakers, USB-C audio and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Pixel 4a cases are available in Basically Black, Static Gray and Blue Confetti, made from recycled content.

Also announced Monday morning is the upcoming release of the first 5G-enabled Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 4a (5G) from $679 and Pixel 5, coming this fall.

Google says there’s also a trade-in program available that can be applied towards a new Pixel 4a. Those who purchase a Pixel 4a will get 3-month trials of YouTube Premium and Google One.

The Google Pixel 4a looks to compete against Apple’s recently updated iPhone SE, priced at $599 in Canada.
