Instagram Launches Captions Sticker for Stories, Will Soon Bring it to Reels

Instagram has just announced the launch of a new Captions sticker for Stories, which automatically turns what you say into text by generating captions. The feature will give users “a new way to amplify their voice without sound, and creatively express themselves,” says Instagram.

We know that “sound off” is a popular option for watching content on Instagram – you may not always be somewhere where you want your sound on, yet you still want to see what your friends and creators are posting. This update also helps to ensure your content is accessible, inclusive and easier for everyone to watch and understand.

Users can change the style, colour, text, and creatively personalize the Captions. The feature was previously available on Threads, and IGTV, and is now being added to Stories. Instagram says it will soon begin testing Captions in Reels as well.

Here’s how the Captions sticker works:

  • Record a video using the Stories/Reels Camera or select from one from your gallery
  • Open the sticker tray and select ‘Captions’ sticker
  • You’ll see your speech is now being converted to text
  • Edit the style, position of caption, text and colour
  • Post

The feature is rolling out now to all Instagram users worldwide.
