LG Display May Supply up to 15 Million Apple Watch Screens in 2015

The day has arrived: Apple is today expected to share additional details of the highly anticipated Apple Watch. Meanwhile, the supply chain is spilling last-minute rumours, such as the orders Apple placed for this year.

Apple watch versions

In line with previous reports (see this Wall Street Journal scoop) shipments of Apple Watch orders are expected to reach 4.8 million units for the first quarter, and about 9 million units in the second quarter, supply chain sources speaking with Digitimes report.

Also in line with previous reports but a slightly different order of the numbers, Korean newspaper ET News reports that LG Display will be the screen supplier for the Apple Watch. The supplier is rumoured to be providing 10–15 million displays for Apple Watch in 2015.

This is apparently in line with the expectations of Strategy Analytics’ analysts, who predicted that Apple would take the lion’s share of the smartwatch market with 15 million units sold this year.
