Netflix Launches Website Highlighting Most Popular Movies, Shows From Around the World

Netflix has a new website that highlights the most popular shows on its streaming service from around the world.

In a bid to make its viewing metrics more transparent, Netflix has launched a new website that lets users see the top 10 movies and films on the streaming platform each week — including Canada.

The new website breaks down Netflix’s content into four different categories: Films (English), Films (Non-English), TV shows (English), and TV shows (Non-English). Every Tuesday, each category’s Top 10 will be updated with rankings from the previous week to show the most popular content on the platform.

In its first release of viewer numbers on Tuesday, Netflix said its subscribers last week spent 149m hours watching Red Notice, the action film starring Gal Gadot, making it the most popular piece of English-language content on the platform.

Within television, the most-watched English-language show was the third season of Narcos: Mexico, drawing 50m hours of viewing. Squid Game was the most popular non-English language television show, racking up 43m hours of viewing during the week ending November 14.

“These weekly lists are in addition to the daily country Top 10 rows we introduced on Netflix last year, which will now also be based on hours viewed,” Pablo Perez De Rosso VP of Content Strategy, Planning & Analysis at Netflix said in a blog post.

The company’s new website launched earlier this week, and also displays a new shift in the way that Netflix ranks the popularity of its content. Previously, the company had measured the popularity of a title based on users who watched at least the first two minutes of the title.

The website is available in English and Spanish initially, with more languages to come next year, Netflix said.
