Samsung on Thursday inadvertently revealed its new lineup of wearable devices in an update to its Galaxy Wearable app.
According to a new report from The Verge, the leak, found in an update to the “Pick your device” screen of the Android app Galaxy Wearable (formerly Samsung Gear) by SamCentralTech shows several new devices: shows a 40-millimeter fitness-focused smartwatch called the Galaxy Watch Active, the successor to Samsung’s previous fitness sport watch, the Gear Sport, which was released nearly 18 months ago. Also on the list of new devices is two apparent fitness bands called the Galaxy Fit and Fit E, andGalaxy Buds earphones.
The Watch Active is a sports-focused smartwatch. A render of the device was leaked in early February, which appears to be accurate, resembling the image from the Samsung app closely. The new Galaxy Watch Active display is significantly larger at 40mm compared to roughly 31mm on the Gear Sport, and standard features will include NFC, a rotating bezel, choices of either a light or dark color, and liquid resistance.
The Galaxy Fit and Fit e fitness trackers appear to be successors to Samsung’s prior Gear Fit devices. Besides confirming the names and apparently imminent announcement, the leak shows a black metallic watch-like device with a long color screen that displays the time and a step counter, attached to a seemingly non-detachable black plastic band. The Fitbit competitors are expected to include GPS, heart rate monitors, and the ability to store music.
Finally, the Galaxy Buds, Samsung’s upcoming flagship wireless earbuds, have the unique ability to charge themselves from the back of the S10. According to an earlier leak, the $170 USD earbuds are similar to Samsung’s existing IconX, but a price increase hopefully indicates a refinement of the design, as well as the addition of the new charging feature.
The Galaxy Wearable app did not reveal prices and availability details for the new products, but Samsung will probably announce them next week. The Galaxy S10 preorders should kick off after the Unpacked press conference with in-store sales to start on March 8th.
