Samsung Prepares to Battle the iPhone 6 with Rumoured Galaxy Alpha

Samsung is known for the long list of smartphones it launches each year — see the five versions of the Galaxy S4 — but none of its high-end smartphones have launched in tandem with an iPhone. That could change this year, if we can believe the rumour mill (via CNET).

Ahead of the rumoured iPhone 6 launch — some say the handset will reach stores on September 19 — Samsung will unveil another high-end smartphone to challenge a device that officially doesn’t exist. Does this mean that the Samsung Galaxy S5 — which just launched in April — will be dated in just five months? It appears so.

If sources familiar with the matter speaking with the Korean ET News are correct, Samsung’s next flagship device will be called the Galaxy Alpha and will be a fusion between the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note.

Details on the new Samsung device are sparse at this point, but we must not forget that the rumour mill has been silent on the iPhone 6 details so far. What we’ve heard so far is that it will allegedly sport a slightly bigger 1800mAh battery, and the CPU will be clocked at 2GHz.
