Google Home Mini Getting Major Update and Rebrand This Fall: Report

According to a report by 9to5Google, an updated Google Home Mini rebranded as Nest Mini will be announced alongside Pixel 4 phones. Quoting sources, 9to5Google says that the new version will have notable upgrades like a wall mount, 3.5mm audio jack, and better sound.

The rebranding of Google Home lineup to “Nest” was announced at Google I/O 2019, company’s annual developer conference. The latest product in the Home family is “Google Nest Hub Max,” which already carries the “Nest” branding.

A wall mount will definitely make the Mini more attractive. Third-party wall mounts are already available for the Mini, so there is already a demand for this.

Another upgrade expected is better sound quality. Google Home Mini is a crowd favourite, however, the audio quality wasn’t impressive. Given the price, this was not a huge complaint, but customers will expect improvement during the upgrade. The second-generation Mini is expected to address this concern too.

A third feature addition expected in the second generation Mini is an audio jack. It is not clear if this 3.5mm jack is going to be for input or output. If it is input only, you could connect your phone or another audio device to use the Mini as an external speaker. However, if the port is for audio output, this could technically become a Chromecast Audio replacement too.

Reports also indicate that there could be a proximity sensor onboard the Nest Home Mini. This is a feature that we have already seen on Nest Hub Max and other Nest products.

With all the new features and the improved speaker quality, it will be interesting to see if Google manages to keep the Mini still within the budget range.

Are you looking forward to the new Nest Home Mini?
