Turo Car-Sharing Service Expands to Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador

Car-sharing service Turo is now available in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.

After being available only in Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec, the car-sharing service is now available in Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. Hosts are now able to list their vehicle to share on the Turo platform, and starting May 17, guests will be able to book local vehicles for use.

“We are proud to provide a safe and convenient car sharing solution to help alleviate the traditional car rental crunch, especially when the travel industry is set to grow this summer,” said Cedric Mathieu, VP of Turo Canada, in an emailed statement. “This launch gives local communities a unique business opportunity to turn a vehicle, that on average sits idle 95% of the time, into a new stream of income. It also gives guests an extraordinary selection of cars to experience during their time in visiting Atlantic Canada.”

Turo is a peer-to-peer car-sharing company. Formerly known as RelayRides, Turo allows car owners to make extra cash by renting out their vehicles, while providing a convenient and quick way to rent a car to those in need of transportation.

Unlike Uber or Lyft, Turo is not a ride-hailing app, but a service more akin to traditional car rental. This makes it ideal for longer journeys you plan in advance — like that upcoming job interview out of town or exploring a new city at your own pace.
