Shaw’s Freedom Mobile to Charge Connection Fees Starting December 3
Shaw’s Freedom Mobile is set to launch a one-time Connection Fee for new activations, set to kick in on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
According to documentation seen by iPhone in Canada, Freedom Mobile says a connection fee will allow the company to fund network expansion and also “explore transformative technology.”
Freedom Mobile says its connection fees will include a free SIM card. The latter will be removed from its systems as a charged item, tomorrow.
Here are Freedom Mobile’s new connection fees:
- Postpaid activations: $20 charged on the first bill
- Prepaid activations: $10 charged on first prepaid top-up
- Hardware upgrades: $0
- Online activations or upgrades: $0
Freedom Mobile will be charging activations fees like incumbents Rogers, Telus and Bell, albeit at $20 versus the $35 fee from the ‘Big 3’. Freedom instructs employees to inform customers of the new fee before closing a sale and also after activation, coming on their first bill.
