Shaw’s Freedom Mobile has launched prepaid plans today, with various offerings looking to target prepaid customers of the Big 3.
Here are the monthly prices for prepaid plans after a $5 Digital Discount:
- $9 for unlimited global texting
- $19 for unlimited nationwide talk and global text
- $24 for unlimited nationwide talk and global text and 1.5GB LTE data
Freedom Mobile says their prepaid plans have no zones, contracts or credit checks, plus not data overages, while data speeds are LTE and not 3G.
Prepaid customers also have access to 300,000 Freedom Wi-Fi Hotspots and “affordable international calling.”
The $9 unlimited texting plan does not include minutes, but a comparable price plan, from Lucky Mobile, for example, is at $10 and only includes 50 minutes and 50 global texts.
The $24/1.5GB plan is an intro offer and beats other prepaid plans from Rogers’ Chatr, Bell’s Lucky Mobile and Telus’ Public Mobile. Their offerings are at $25/1GB of 3G data, so with Freedom you get 500MB more data, which is also on LTE. However, with Freedom Mobile, you do need to check coverage in your area.
