Shaw’s Freedom Mobile is offering up Apple’s iPhone XR for $0 upfront, with an $80/15GB plan, which comes with the company’s one-time 100GB Big Binge bonus data.
The promo is only available for “new port-in activations from Telus Mobility, Koodo Mobile, Public Mobile, Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, or Lucky Mobile only.” Customers from Rogers, Fido and Chatr are not eligible.
The 64GB iPhone XR costs $1029, but the promo offers a $25 per month MyTab Boost credit for the duration of your 24-month contract, essentially making it ‘free’. You just need to pay $80 per month (after Digital Discount) which comes with 15GB of LTE data.
Here’s what you’re essentially paying per month over 24 months, after taking into considerating the cost of the free iPhone XR:
$80 x 24 months = $1920 – $1029 (iPhone XR) = $891 / 24 months = $37.13/month with 15GB data plus taxes
If you are in an area with good Freedom Mobile coverage, this is a pretty decent offer. To get an iPhone XR for $0 upfront on contract from the Big 3 will cost you at least $115 per month, with a plan that barely includes any data.
Freedom Mobile says this promo “may not be combined with any other in-market offer, with the exception of the Big Binge Bonus Data offer, Better Together Savings, and the Refer a Friend program.” The 25% off Friends and Family promo code does not stack on top of this plan.
You can get this offer at a Freedom Mobile retail location, or to avoid line ups, try The Mobile Shop within Superstore locations or even Walmart.
Yesterday, Telus’ Public Mobile launched a promo targeting Freedom Mobile customers, offering a $48/12.5GB 3G data plan if they switched over.
No word if we’ll see similar responses from Telus or Bell regarding this promo, but this may be the start of another wireless holiday price war like last year.
