Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed in a Friday tweet that the company will increase the price of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) upgrade for its Autopilot suite of driver assistance features in the U.S., from $10,000 USD to $12,000 USD, starting January 17 — reports Tesla North.

Musk confirmed in a follow-up tweet that the price hike only applies to the U.S. and customers in other regions, Canada included, will not be affected.
The price of FSD “will rise as we get closer to FSD production code release,” added the Tesla CEO.

According to Musk, monthly FSD subscriptions in the U.S. will be spared from the price increase this time around, but their prices “will rise when FSD goes to wide release.”
The last time Tesla adjusted FSD pricing in its home market was October 2020, when the company raised the price by $2,000 USD, from $8,000 USD to $10,000 USD.
FSD pricing in Canada went up months prior to that, from $9,200 CAD to $10,600 CAD, where it currently stands, an expensive option.
FSD offers advanced driver assistance features like automatic highway on-ramp and off-ramp driving, lane changes, and more:
“Automatic driving on city streets” is currently being tested in the FSD public beta.
Speaking of FSD beta, Musk said version 10.8 “should be ready in about a week.” The Tesla CEO also revealed that the next major iteration of the FSD beta could be ready as early as February. “Beta 11 with single city/highway software stack & many other architectural upgrades probably next month,” said Musk.
Meanwhile, Canadians are still waiting for Tesla to launch FSD beta in the Great White North.
Any FSD orders placed today in the U.S. and prior to the price hike on January 17 will be able to take advantage of current FSD pricing and save $2,000 USD.
