iPhone 3G Unlocking Video by Dev Team

This New Year’s Eve, get ready for the launch of the iPhone 3G software unlock being released by the iPhone Dev Team. This software unlock is being hotly anticipated by many people using iPhone 3Gs locked to Rogers and Fido who will be moving away or traveling. There’s nothing worse than not being able to use your iPhone 3G when you’re overseas or on vacation!

Anyways, the following video was released a couple days ago by Dev Team member MuscleNerd. Apparently the package will be released on Cydia and will be extremely easy to use. As long as you have not updated your iPhone 3G to 2.2 firmware directly in iTune (which keeps your baseband to an older version) you should be able to unlock your iPhone soon!

Here’s the live demo of yellowsn0w (better late than never, right?):

I’ll be giving this a try when it is released now that I can re-enable DFU mode on my aluminum MacBook. Your iPhone 3G will have to be jailbroken in order for the unlock to work. Get ready for an exciting New Year’s Eve!

Anyone jump on some killer Boxing Day deals from yesterday?

So from reading all the threads am I correct in assuming that there is no way to upgrade to 2.2 and retain jailbreak AND upcoming unlocking option if you’re running Windows XP?

I believe so, since WinPwn was the Windows equivalent of PwnageTool. You’ll have to use a friend’s Mac from the sounds of it. 😉
