redsn0w For Windows Released! Jailbreak Your 4.1 iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G

Oh sure, Mac users got this treatment more than two weeks ago. But not everyone uses a Mac right? Which is exactly why the Dev-Team has just released an updated redsn0w for Windows.

Before you ask, this is for the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch (second generation) ONLY. More importantly: this update is NOT for ultrasn0w unlockers!

I know there are a lot of you waiting for this. We still sign 3 year contracts in Canada so it’s fair to be using an iPhone 3G which is now in its third year. The Windows download is at the bottom of our source links.

Those of you with an iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, iPad or even a new Apple TV, your wait is almost over 😉

Nice catch on this Pedram. iPhone 3G/iPT2G users will love this!

Awesome 3G can jailbreak now, but if people are already complaining that it’s very slow on 4.X wouldnt jailbreaking add to the slowness issue? In any case this is great news 🙂

First off, Jailbreaking does not slow your iPhone down. It’s the tweaks that you might install afterwards that may slow your phone down.
Regarding iPhone 3G performance, Apple claims iOS 4.1 fixes iPhone 3G’s performance issues.

I understand it’s the jailbreak tweaks that slow it down, but who
jailbreaks, then not download any tweaks? Also I am an apple beta
tester ^_~. I’m aware of the fixes, but some people still complain
it’s still slower. Was merely sharing my thoughts ^_~. *cheers*

Wow, luck you!
Sorry if I came off serious, I just didn’t want to create any confusion for the readers. From what I had heard personally, 4.1 had improved iPhone 3G’s performance enough for everyday use.
It’s true that most people who jailbreak will install tweaks but some might be doing it just to do simple things like output their video to another display. These sort of apps don’t really affect performance in any way.

No worries bud. Every one of us have points of views, and we all have
the right to express them ^_~. so it’s all good. I’m known for being a
little to bold when I speak sometimes too lol

Yes 4.1 did make the 3G a lot better, but some still say it’s
horrible. I never had that problem with my wifes 3G, but I also always
disable spotlight search which is also know to help improve
performance a bit.

They’ve yet to discover an exploit in iOS 4.1’s baseband. No ETA.

4.1 helped, but it still didn’t bring it back to 3.x performance levels. It still stumbles over keystrokes if you type too fast. Music playback still stutters sometimes when an email alert or SMS alert sound gets triggered. Still lots of other things I’m forgetting at the moment. So while it was an improvement, it still didn’t fix everything. 🙁

Yeah, it’s a shame the 4.1 didn’t have that extra kick many had hoped
for. As I mentioned before, have you turned off spotlight search in (
settings > General > home ) unchecked all boxes? The 3G benefits most
from this due to it’s lack of ram, afterwords restart your iPhone. It
really helped my wifes.

Not to sound like a grammar nazi, but “I know there *are* a lot of you waiting for this.”

Fixed!
That’s what happens when you rush a post without proof reading it. Thanks for that

I tried what you mentioned about spotlight…gawd I hate that you can’t disable it FULLY like you can with the jailbreak tweak. Even though all items are “unchecked” it still shows on the springboard whereas on the JB tweak it removes the little magnifying glass icon altogether and won’t scroll when you try to swipe from left to right. THANK YOU DEV TEAM for Sunday’s release of greenp0ison!!!!!!!

and still no word of a 3gs and itouch 3rd gen jailbreak for 4.1…..

I feel like i’m being shafted just a little bit 🙁

I feel your pain. Two members of the Chronic Dev Team put it best though.
@copumpkin: Hackers can’t choose what exploits they find. It’s like research: you want everything, but you can’t know what’s possible.
@notcom: As @copumpkin mentioned, we wish exploits worked on all devices all the time but it just doesn’t work out that way.

 Xaroc

yeah that would be better, because after you uncheck everything it basically becomes a web search bar lol
but for the slower phones, at least it a little bit less process it has to do by remembering those files.

Meh. Now that i’ve got my iPhone4, my wife has the 3G. No need for Jailbreak on it anymore, she’s happy with it the way it is. Now what I need is a jailbreak for my iPad running 3.2.2. Then I could tether over bluetooth to my iPhone4, which is what I wanted in the first place.

No, haven’t turned off the searches yet. Just haven’t bothered, heh. But I suppose I should. I never use it anyway.

 Xaroc

Yeah, my co worker and wife both did it and noticed a small different.
I don’t use it either, so it becomes a habit for me to show others the
potential minor speed increase, I even did it on my iPhone 4 lol not
like I needed to

You need to provide more info. Hardware (3G, 3G S, 4) and firmware (3.x, 4.x)? If you have firmware 4.0.1 or lower, use the jailbreak method appropriate for your hw/fw (google it) if you have 4.1 your screwed till an unlock comes out.
