Amazon Prime Video Apple TV App May Not Launch in September: Report

At WWDC in June, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on stage Amazon’s Prime Video app would be making its debut on Apple TV, coming later this year.

While many expected ‘this year’ as possibly Apple’s rumoured September 12 iPhone event, sources tell Recode “the app may not be live in time for next month’s product launch.”

The publication added this little nugget of speculation at the end of its story yesterday about Apple battling Hollywood studios for $20 USD 4K movie pricing. Recode first reported back in May an Amazon Prime Video app was coming for Apple TV, so it has good sources regarding the Prime Video app.

Amazon Prime Video is a free perk of a Prime subscription, offering original movies, TV shows and other streaming content. Canadians gained access to Prime Video back in December.

Apple is expected to hold its fall iPhone event on September 12, where it will debut three new smartphone models, including an all-new ‘iPhone 8’ without a Home button. New Apple Watch models with cellular capabilities and a 4K Apple TV are also said to debut.

If the Amazon Prime Video app for Apple TV doesn’t launch next month, there’s still October, November and December left in 2017. Once it does debut, it’ll make watching media from Amazon much, much easier for Prime subscribers with an Apple TV.
