Next iPhone To Receive Display Improvements; June 25th Launch

Reports from DigiTimes claim that the next generation iPhone, rumored to be released in June 2010, will receive numerous improvements that will top many currently available smartphones.

To date, the majority of rumors indicate that the next iPhone will have a high resolution display of 960 x 640 pixels, compared to the current 480 x 320. Using the majority of leaked iPhone prototypes, the best comparison can only be qualitative in nature. However today, the report from DigiTimes further confirms the iPhone display rumors indicating that the screen will be 960 x 640.

The report also indicates that the next iPhone will feature a FFS (fringe-field switching) display, which is a technology that should greatly improve viewing angles and display performance in areas of bright light, such as being outside.

By incorporating FFS technology, which enables a wider viewing angle and clearer visual quality under in sunlight, Apple is aiming to improve the handset’s e-book reader features and promote its iBooks Store. HTC’s Hero smartphone has already adopted this technology.

Reading more, the DigiTimes report also details that the next iPhone display panel is 33% thinner than in current iPhone models. This allows for increased space for the battery, which means greater battery life.

On the internal side of things, the next iPhone is reported to receive an ARM Cortex A8 processor and 512MB of RAM. This actually runs against recent iPhone prototype reveals where those devices included 256MB of RAM.

The iPhone 4G will run on the Arm Cortex A8 processor and a 512MB memory module from Samsung Electronics, doubling the memory capacity seen in the iPhone 3GS to take advantage of the multi-tasking capability of the iPhone 4.0 platform

Apple is hosting its annual WWDC event this June 7th through June 11th. An iPhone announcement is expected at the conference with a release date on June 25, 2010.

My experience is you're much better phoning in your order. Rogers ships your new iPhone by courier and you have it Monday or Tuesday of the following week while stores are still scrambling for inventory.

I'd just get it at an Apple Store, if you're near one. Guaranteed
inventory.

I don't think the Apple Store will do upgrades though. Buying a 4G outright is way too expensive for me.

Apple stores do the following for the wireless carriers:

Activations
Upgrades/renewals
Outright
Bill payments

I will be picking one up. I have read that the screen sizer is actually smaller than the current model. Is this true?

I'm not sure Rogers will be ready by US launch date due to the new MicroSIM being incorporated in the new iPhone…I'll def be picking one up when they do get i along with the $30/6gb plan (although with recent data price drops i wonder if they'll make the move to knock out Bell/Telus at launch.

Also, I'm a bit disappointed witht he fact that the screen prob won't be LED….that would have DRAMATICALLY increased battery life, and along with the larger battery would make this device up to blackberry par if not better (battery life wise).

On the Fido website, my upgrade eligibility date is July 23, 2010. On July 23, 2010 I will be ordering my iPhone HD! Woohoo

Rogers is already ready for the MicroSIM era as we can see on Apple's website when ordering an iPad 3G for Rogers.
