In case you had forgotten that the recently introduced iPhone 5s and the colourful, lower-cost 5c will hit the stores on Friday, September 20, here is a reminder from Apple.
In a press release issued this morning, Apple highlights the 64-bit A7 chip, iSight camera with True Tone flash, and Touch ID. Regarding the iPhone 5c, the company says it is packed with “features people know and love, like the beautiful 4-inch display”. Apple has already launched the first iPhone 5c ad, which appeared online yesterday.
Apple today announced that iPhone 5s, the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world and iPhone 5c, the most colorful iPhone yet, will be available to customers on Friday, September 20 at 8:00 a.m. local time at Apple retail stores and at 12:01 a.m. PDT at the Apple Online Store. iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK.
iPhone 5s reservations have already begun in China, and every sign points to there being limited supply, as multiple stores have already sold out of the majority of all models within just a few hours of availability. Apple began accepting iPhone 5c preorders on September 13.
In fact, a Digitimes report reinforces the above statement about limited supply, citing low lens module yield for the iPhone 5s (and the iPhone 5c).
Preorders of the iPhone 5s will start at 12:01 a.m. PDT on September 20, while Apple Stores will open their doors at 8:00 a.m. local time to offer unlocked iPhone 5s units at launch.

Is it easy to cancel the pre-order should a person find the phone in store that morning? I wonder how quickly they’ll start shipping since they are being released the same day as the ordering begins… Does anyone have experience with this? Worst case, what if the online order ships and you have a phone from the store in hand?
It should be fairly easy given the timeframe you mentioned.
Considering only orders won’t start until 12:01AM PDT on the 20th…you’ll have plenty of time to cancel before your order processes and is shipped.
and even if you somehow couldnt cancel, just get a refund at the apple store when you get it
Are we 100% sure that apple stores will sell unlocked iphone 5s friday morning at 8:00?
Their website seems to imply that, yes. How many remains to be seen…
Edit – Sorry didn’t realize that they usually only do upgrades on launch day. I’ve never gone to an iPhone launch at an Apple Store as it’s over an hour away from me and the line up is shorter at my local Best Buy/Rogers, etc. I like not having to be there overnight.
We asked our source yesterday and he says yes. We will confirm this by Wednesday/Thursday.

If I order it online on the 20th at 12:01 when should I get it? Will it take a week or will I get it in days?
Unknown at this point, I’d say about one week.
I just hope if I show up on the morning of the 20th I will be able to get an unlocked one by paying full price. Reportedly, last year people were already in line at midnight.
If you’re in line by midnight, you should have a very good chance to get an unlocked phone. With word of iPhone 5s ‘shortages’, lines will be huge we suspect. Lining up is fun if you’re going to do it…once. The online order option is so easy!
Ya but then again, I don’t want to wait a full week before getting my phone. When will you be able to confirm if Canadian Apple store’s will have the iPhone 5s unlocked (full price) on launch day?

I had called Tbooth Wireless, they are unofficially making an iPhone 5s reservations list. Try your local area as it seems each store is different.
As for FS/BB, my mistake, as they were only taking iPhone 5c pre-orders.
Have you heard anything concerning MTS and whether they’ll have the phone available on Sept. 20th?
MTS doesn’t even have the iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s advertised on their site yet. I’m suspecting they will get it later on after the rush.
