Apple Tops the Most-Sought-After Desktop Computer Brands List

Apple desktops have emerged as the most-sought-after desktop computers, at least this holiday shopping season, according to a poll conducted by market research company Park Associates (via CNET).

In terms of desktops, this is the first time Apple has ranked No. 1 in the history of the poll. It is worth noting, though, that Apple has slowly but steadily climbed up the list of desktop brands: it ranked No. 3 in the 2011 survey, while last year displaced Hewlett-Packard to grab the No. 2 position. But Dell had remained at the top for years – until now.

“Apple topped the list of intended brands for desktop purchases for the first time this year,” John Barrett, Parks Associates director of consumer analytics, said in a statement Wednesday. “In 2011 and 2012, Dell was the top desktop brand, but Apple has displaced it, making Apple now the most popular brand across even more key CE categories.”

When it comes to streaming media devices, the Apple TV lead the most-ought-after devices list for years. What’s interesting, though, is Parks Associates’ note: despite customers saying they want to buy the Apple TV, they may end up buying the Roku box instead.

The iMac received an upgrade earlier this September – the all-in-one desktops now feature Intel’s Haswell processors – and the company is gearing up for the December launch of the Mac Pro, which is rumoured to be available from December 16. The latter is the first Apple product designed and manufactured in the USA.
